Status of the Daesan Port Development Project

Purpose of the Project

  • To develop petrochemical and local industrial complexes and strengthen logistics support functions of the port through linking with adjacent complexes
  • To boost functions of Daesan Port in the central West Sea and develop it as an integrated-functional port

First Project of Phase

  • Project period: from 1997 to 2006
  • Construction supported by the public sector: West Breakwater (660 meters), management pier (250 meters), and general-cargo terminal (20,000???1B: 210 meters)
  • Total fund: KRW 124.6 billion
  • Expected outcome: enhanced cargo-handling capacity of 572,000 tons per year (601,000-ton cargo-handling capacity per year from 2011), creation of a 163,000-square meter port area

Second Project of Phase

  • Project period: from 2006 to 2011
  • Construction supported by the public sector: North Breakwater (210 meters), two berths in a general-cargo terminal (20,000???1B, 30,000???1B: 450 meters), one berth in a container terminal (2,000 TEUs???1B: 250 meters), and two floating piers
  • Construction supported by the private sector: car terminal (30,000???1B: 240 meters)
  • Total fund: KRW 179.3 billion (National finance: KRW 128.2 billion; Private finance: KRW 51 billion)
  • Expected outcome: enhanced cargo-handling capacity of 5,284,000 tons per year (including 120,000 TEUs of container cargo), securing of a 155,000-square meter port area (creation of a 197,000-square meter area)

    * Total of a 306,000-square meter area (including a 109,000-square meter car terminal area)

Second Project of Phase

  • Project period: from 2011 to 2020
  • Construction supported by the public sector: general-cargo terminal (50,000 tons, 280 meters)
  • Total fund: KRW 62.5 billion
  • Expected outcome: enhanced cargo-handling capacity of 848,000 tons per year, creation of a 146,000-square meter area
